By Car

Traffic updates are available on the 8's (7:08, 7:18, 7:28, etc.) on 780-AM radio,

Note: A Mapquest route inaccurately diverted the driver to the city's west side, but if you must use it, or a GPS,

we suggest setting it for the Columbia Yacht Club, 600 E Randolph Street.

From the North on the Kennedy Expressway (1-94):  From either the local or the express lanes, exit on Ohio Street.  Ohio is one-way eastbound. To avoid the most traffic snarls, stay in the middle lane through the River North business area.   Two blocks beyond Michigan Avenue, turn right (southbound) on Fairbanks Court.  On crossing the Chicago River, Fairbanks becomes Columbus Drive, and goes underneath two blocks of high-rise buildings. Just before coming out from under the buildings, turn left at the traffic light for Randolph Street, which ends at the harbor.

From the West on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290):  The expressway becomes Congress Street through the loop.  Continue on Congress until it ends in Grant Park at Columbus Drive. Turn left (north) on Columbus and proceed to the third stoplight and turn right on Randolph Street.

From the Southwest on the Stevensen Expressway (I-55):  Exit at northbound Lake Shore Drive. Take Lake Shore Drive north along the lakefront, and exit at Randolph Street.

From the South on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94):  From either the express or local lanes, take the Lake Shore Drive exit, proceed north along the lakefront, and exit at Randolph Street.

Drop off or parking:

  • You can stop briefly in the drop off circle at the foot of Randolph Street.  It is a one-block walk north to the ship along the waterfront. Do not leave your car unattended or it may be towed.
  • Or drive down the ramp to the Du Sable Harbor parking lot (about 100 feet north of Randolph Street, just off the northbound ramp to Wacker Drive). There is no attendant; the gate is automated with a pay station. There is a $20 per day ($30 on weekends) charge. However, the latest word is that the gate will issue a ticket good for a free 15-minute drop off. On exiting you deposit the ticket and the gate opens. If you exceed the 15 minutes, the fee is $10 for the first two hours.
  • In the lot, park at the far north end. Facing the lake, YP-671 is to the left of DuSable yacht harbor, moored in the river along the concrete driveway that leads to the Coast Guard station and police marine unit. Do not drive from the parking lot onto that driveway under any circumstances, even just to unload.

 By Train

From either Union Station or Ogilvie Transportation Center a cab to the harbor (ask for the Columbia Yacht Club at the foot of Randolph Street), or from the Union Station bus stop at the southeast corner of Jackson and Canal Street, or the Ogilvie bus stop at Madison and Canal, take a #60 CTA bus and get off on upper Randolph Street near Harbor Drive (ask the driver to alert you) and walk through the park to the lower level of Randolph Street, which runs under Lake Shore Drive to the harbor. If commuter boats are running on the river (they dock near the train stations), they can drop you off at Navy Pier and you can walk across the bridge, a distance of about two blocks.

By CTA bus

In addition to #60, other CTA bus routes coming closest to DuSable Harbor include: #6 (on Wacker Drive, get off at Columbus, take the stairs down to the riverside, walk east three blocks to the harbor), any bus to Navy Pier (routes #2 - #9 - #65 - #66 _ #124), get off on Illinois Street near Lake Shore Drive, walk across the lower level of the Chicago River Bridge to the harbor.

By Air

There is good public transportation available from both Midway and O'Hare airports, including CTA rapid transit trains downtown, airport bus service to hotels within a few blocks of the ship, and caps (expensive). Contact us in advance if you are arriving by train or air.
